Masahuat, El Salvador

Initial Training

In March 2026, in partnership with the office of Diputado Zaldaña, En Busca De Unas Sonrisas, and local community leaders, IHELP completed a Community Health Worker (CHW) training in Masahuat, El Salvador. 18 volunteers representing 4 existing community health committees graduated as certified CHWs, strengthening the region’s capacity to promote health, prevent disease, and connect families with essential health resources. This project was the culmination of a partnership that began in 2023 with a shared vision of empowering local leaders to improve health outcomes within their own communities.

A unique strength of this project was its focus on strengthening existing community leadership rather than creating a new program. The 18 graduates came from four established health committees that were already serving their communities and meeting regularly to address local health needs. By equipping these dedicated volunteers with additional knowledge and skills, the project enhanced the capacity of organizations that were already trusted within the community, allowing them to expand their impact while continuing to serve as local advocates for healthier families throughout the Masahuat region.
