Rus Rus, Gracias a Dios, Honduras

Initial Training

In November 2022, International HELP (IHELP) partnered with Missionary Air Group in Rus Rus, Gracias a Dios, Honduras. This extremely remote area is made up largely of the Miskito indigenous population and lacks access to quality healthcare. There is a great need for Community Health Workers (CHWs) to provide health education and basic health services. IHELP conducted a 5-day training, training and certifying 28 local people as CHWs. Some traveled hours on foot (from as far as Nicaragua!) to participate in the training. Each CHW is empowered to spread their knowledge to better serve their communities.

Training Topics

  • Vital Signs
  • Examining & Caring for a Sick Person
  • Nutrition and Related Illnesses
  • Respiratory Illnesses & Care
  • Maternal & Prenatal Health
  • CPR & First Aid
  • Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene
  • Skin Infections

Thank you for the valuable help which has been very beneficial for us. We have never had such great training like this before and now we can do something new that will help our communities. This training will help and provide positive results in our communities. We hope to continue receiving more training.

Advanced Maternal Health Certification

International HELP continued its collaboration with Missionary Air Group (MAG) to train and further equip 13 CHWs in advanced maternal health. During the 5-day training, CHWs received education on maternal health issues most relevant to their community, planned community outreach events, hosted blood pressure screenings at a local soccer game, and responded to a motorcycle accident. In the upcoming year, IHELP looks forward to seeing the creative ways in which this group accompanies pregnant women and babies in their community!

Training Topics

  • First Aid Review
  • Prenatal Care
  • Labor & Delivery
  • Assisting in an Emergency Delivery
  • Neonatal Resuscitation

I am very grateful that the organization came to train us on topics we did not know about. Thank you because this training is important for us and we are coming together and sharing the information with our community. I believe this training will benefit us one day in helping each other out. What I have learned is also very helpful for my family and others as well. Thank you and I hope the next training is as helpful as this one or more.
