El Jute, El Salvador
Initial Training
Due to the rural nature of caserios (villages) in Texistepeque, El Salvador, access to a local health center is quite limited, leading to a high incidence of preventable health diseases among these communities. IHELP plans to train Community Health Workers (CHWs) across each of the six Texistepeque districts. With limited access to public transportation, our CHWs will be able to help provide health education and resources directly to their community.
IHELP trained a group of CHWs in Guarnecia, El Salvador in January 2022. Due to multiple factors, this group disbanded, but the group leader remained active in her community (El Jute). After staying in contact with IHELP, she requested a new training of CHWs in El Jute to “restart” the inactive group. El Jute is Project #7 of our Texistepeque Rural Caserios Project.

Advanced Maternal Health Certification
After the group’s initial training in July 2024, the El Jute group consistently met each month to study new materials IHELP sent. From taking blood pressure to teaching community members how to make oral rehydration drinks, the El Jute group has been a steadfast source of education and encouragement for their community. The group requested further training in maternal health to be able to care for pregnant community members and newborn babies. After 5 days of training, the team of 7 graduated with IHELP’s Advanced Maternal Health Certification.

Through it, we receive training with quality information and with material that allows us to put our knowledge into practice. Thank you for all the work and support you provide us.
