Initial Training
International HELP partnered with AME Assemblies of God Church in Long Island, NY to train 6 new Community Health Workers (CHWs). The training assisted the predominantly foreign-born, Spanish-speaking population in Suffolk County by increasing health education and healthcare access. A primary goal of the training was to connect community members to proper health care and provide health education on topics of respiratory health, maternal health, and nutrition to prevent disease and illness.
Many of the people shared with us that they were unaware of the health services available to them within their neighborhood. Because of the training, the CHWs are now able to help provide health education and resources to their community. The information they learned helped to change not only their lives but also their families and friends.
