Silver Spring, MD, USA

Initial Training

In 2018, International HELP traveled to Silver Spring, MD to partner with Sargent Shriver Elementary School and train 11 Community Health Workers (CHWs). Sargent Shriver has a large Hispanic population. Many of the moms are very involved in the school and their children’s lives but lack the health knowledge and skills to keep themselves and their families healthy and thriving. This mom group was very excited for the opportunity to learn the basics of first aid, vital signs, and especially nutrition and how to apply these principles to make their families and neighbors healthier.

Training Topics

  • Vital Signs
  • Examining & Caring for a Sick Person
  • Respiratory Illnesses & Care
  • Nutrition
  • Mental Health
  • Chronic Diseases
  • Preventative Medicine
  • Common Illnesses

Thank you so much for sending our teacher Monterey and assistants so that they can share the information in our Latin community, especially in our children’s school since we also learn from them one way or another and we put it into practice with our family and our community.

Thank you for giving us material and sharing it with everyone, we will practice this experience with my community. God bless each one of you for sending this health project.
