For the past ten years, International HELP has partnered with committed Community Health Workers (CHWs) who are transforming the health of their communities every day. To celebrate this milestone, we are sharing stories of impact from around the world. Each story highlights one CHW, one training, or one initiative that continues to shape healthier, stronger communities. These are the faces behind the work, the voices behind the change, and the everyday efforts that make long-term impact possible.
Alice (Zimbabwe)
In Zimbabwe, CHW Alice is a champion for mothers and young women. She hosted a health session where she taught about safe sex, healthy nutrition during pregnancy, and caring for infants in clean environments. She even held a participant’s baby so the mother could fully focus on learning. This is community-centered health education in action.
Isaac (Uganda)
Meet Isaac from Uganda. After receiving training on nutrition, Isaac used his new skills to support a woman living with diabetes and has continued sharing life-saving knowledge throughout his community. This is why we train Community Health Workers!
Nutrition & BP Training for Youth (Haiti)
In Carrefour County, Haiti, Fritznel trained nearly 400 children on nutrition and how to take blood pressure. Empowering youth with foundational health knowledge strengthens families and communities for years to come. Thank you, Fritznel, for helping raise the next generation of health leaders!
“Some of them said to me, Teacher Fritznel, with this info that we take from you today, we will save the lives of a lot of people in my community.
Some of them said: if we had this info before, we could have saved the life of my aunt.
They are very happy to receive this wonderful training during the 4 days.“
– CHW Fritznel
Mary (Zimbabwe)
Meet Mary from Zimbabwe. Since her training, Mary has become a trusted resource in her community. Families now know they can turn to her for guidance, support, and care when they need it most. When Community Health Workers are equipped, entire communities grow healthier.
Project Integrating Grandparents (El Salvador)
In El Salvador, older adults are finding renewed purpose and connection through the Project Integrating Grandparents program. The initiative provides activities ranging from recreation and arts to medical, psychological, and legal support, all coordinated with community leaders and local institutions. Health becomes stronger when every generation is included.
Abatización Campaigns (El Salvador)
Community Health Workers in El Sunza and Ojo de Agua are preventing mosquito-borne diseases through community-wide Abatización campaigns. They prepared and distributed anti-larval treatments to households, helping stop mosquito breeding in water tanks and standing water. Disease prevention begins at home, and Community Health Workers lead the way.
Lake Victoria Island Health Fairs (Uganda)
Community Health Workers in Uganda traveled with district environmental officers to remote islands on Lake Victoria to provide health education, blood pressure checks, diabetes support, and hygiene training. They reached families with limited access to care and connected them with local clinicians for continued treatment and support. This is collaboration, service, and community partnership in action.
These stories represent only a small glimpse into the dedication, leadership, and compassion demonstrated by Community Health Workers across the globe. Their work is the heartbeat of International HELP’s mission and the reason healthier futures are being built one household at a time. The numbers tell a powerful story, but the real impact is found in the people behind them. Here’s to ten years of progress and the many more to come!
